A bit about me...

Hi!  Welcome to my blog about my weight loss journey.

Here are a few things about me and my reasons for having WLS (weight loss surgery).

  • I am currently in graduate school and thankfully my health insurance is completely paying for my surgery.
  • I am having the VSG
  • The VSG is known as the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy.  This procedure is performed worldwide and works by restricting the amount of food that can be eaten by removing 85% of the stomach without bypassing the intestines or causing any malabsorption.
  • I have struggled with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and Insulin Resistance since I was a tween.  I was diagnosed with type II diabetes in April of 2015, so that really kicked my butt into gear with regards to exploring bariatric surgery as an option.
  • My reasons for having weight loss surgery are plenty, but here are my top three reasons:
    • I want to live a long and healthy life and I know that the sleeve will be a tool to help me achieve that.
    • My husband and I want a family one day. With my health issues, a healthy pregnancy will be hard to come by, if not impossible.
    • I want to be able to enjoy the things in life that many obese people cannot such as riding roller coasters, fitting comfortably on airplanes, being able to walk for extended periods of time, fitting into desks and chairs properly, hiking and camping, etc...
  • I started this odyssey in June (2015).  My highest weight on record is 282.  My goal weight is 140, healthy, fit, and strong.
  • I promise to blog about the good and the bad - I want to be a voice for those (especially young people) who are exploring the option for having WLS.
Best wishes to all!
